My Story
For the past few years I have become involved with The Bay Area Woodturners Association and have taken lots of wood working classes at Mount Diablo Adult Education Center.
I wanted to buy a woodturners smock and I bought several online. I soon realized they all had design problems. My front pockets would fill up with sawdust, much to my wife’s consternation. I got a tan colored one that was made from 100% polyester and it attracted the oil stains (Tung oil, walnut oil, etc.) and the stains dyed the fabric. The zipper was low quality and broke after a few uses.
I listened to feedback from many of my fellow woodturners and set out to design a better smock. My career was spent as a manager at large industrial uniform rental companies in the cleanroom industry. Many of my customers were large companies in Silicon Valley. My 40-year experience has led me to incorporate some design features, from cleanroom garments, that I believe have produced a far superior designed woodturners smock that will last many years.
The fabric is an anti-static material that helps to prevent the sawdust sticking to the surface. I find a light pat down after turning and sanding removes most of the debris. The darker color also does not show normal staining and will keep the smock looking very good all the time.
From my days in the uniform business I found that a roomier size garment allows more air to circulate around the body to help to keep you more comfortable. We offer standard USA sizes from Medium to 4X-Large
